Meet the Mentors is here!

Need a hand with Ham Radio?

Most of us can point to a specific person—a parent, a teacher, or a friend—who made a difficult subject click. In amateur radio, that “connection” is often what transforms a confusing hobby into a lifelong passion.

Every “Elmer” was once a “New Ham” who relied on a mentor to learn the ropes. To ensure new hams feel supported rather than discouraged, SMRA is proud to present Meet the Mentors (MTM). While many veterans have a “go-to” circle for help, new operators often don’t know where to start. Our program is designed to bridge the gap.

How it works:

These sessions are driven by you. While we provide featured topics, the discussion focuses on whatever the attendees need most. Our mentors are seasoned SMRA members dedicated to helping you get the most out of your gear and your license.

Topics of discussion can include, but are not limited to:

  • What equipment do I need?
  • Radio Etiquette
  • Emergency Communications (Emcomm)
  • How do I program and use my radio?
  • Build project: Build your very own 2m Ground Plane antenna

What’s the one thing in amateur radio you’ve been dying to understand? Use this form to guide our MTM discussions. You can vote for the pre-listed topics or suggest your own, select them all if you’d like! Your feedback ensures our mentors are sharing exactly what you need to get on the air and have fun.
