While we love the technology, SMRA is truly defined by its members. We believe the best way to learn is over a meal or a cup of coffee. Check our events calendar for more information.
- Monthly Ham Radio Breakfasts: Join us on the 2nd Saturday of every month for a casual “show and tell.”. These mornings are the perfect time to bring in a new piece of gear, ask for technical advice, or just catch up with local hams.
- QRP Dinners & Park Outings: We frequently organize low-power (QRP) dinners and Parks on the Air (POTA) events where we take our radios into the field to enjoy the outdoors and practice portable operations.
- Monthly Meetings: We meet as a club every 3rd Tuesday of the month for our monthly meetings. Members and non-members alike are welcome to join us in person or on Zoom. Join our Groups.io page or Facebook page for more information.
- Meet the Mentor Meetings: We meet every 1st Tuesday of the month for our monthly MTM meetings. Come join us to learn more about the radio arts!
- Hands-on Workshops: We move from theory to practice with workshops on building antennas, soldering “Power Poles,” and crimping coax cables.
Our Weekly On-Air Nets
If you can’t make it to a meeting in person, our weekly nets are the best way to stay connected and test your equipment. Check our events calendar and nets page for more information.
- Monday Night Net (8:10 PM): This is our flagship net on the .43 repeater. Join us at 8:10pm to listen to the ARRL radio news. Then at 8:30pm check your equipment by checking into the net. Feel free to provide traffic (news, personal updates, etc.)!
- Monday Night Elmer Net (9:00 PM): After general check-ins, we hold an “Elmer Help” session specifically for live Q&A—no question is too basic!
- Wednesday Morning Net (9:00 AM): Come join us on Wednesday mornings for a casual ragchew net. No formal net, just check in and join the conversation!
- Sunday Digital Net (7:00 PM): For those interested in the cutting edge, this net explores digital modes. We practice sending photos, emails, and ICS forms entirely via radio waves.
Volunteer with the Club
SMRA is a 100% volunteer-run organization. We are always looking for help in areas like:
- Public Service: Assisting with communications for local bike races and community events.
- Education: Helping as a “VE” (Volunteer Examiner) for testing sessions or as an assistant instructor for our library classes.
- Technical: Maintaining our four local repeaters or helping with Field Day station setups.
- Content: Contributing photos or articles for our website and newsletter.
Interested in helping out? Chat with any board member at our next monthly meeting or email us at N3TWT@arrl.net.
